What a weekend it was at this year’s superhero triathlon for Team Iron Man and Team Captain America!
Our patients rocked the event, competing alongside some of Hobbs Rehabilitation South East’s multidisciplinary therapy team. It was amazing to reconnect with past and present patients who were there representing some of the many organisations we support.
Laura Harman, Specialist Neurological Physiotherapist and Co-Centre Lead at South East comments: “It has been an honour for our therapists to support our patients in another fantastic year at the Superhero Triathlon. This inspirational event never fails to spread joy and happiness and we are truly in awe of the huge efforts of all involved. This year we were excited to enter two teams that were made up of Hobbs Rehabilitation patients, specialist therapists and their close relatives. Our two patients, Andy and Laura, were phenomenal, both exceeded expectations in cycling and walking, it really was a privilege to be there with you and you are an incredible inspiration. Well done everyone!”
At Hobbs Rehabilitation, we are passionate about our patients. What sets us up for success is the community that is built at each of our centres. Andy has been a patient for several years, and it was his second time participating in the Superhero Triathalon with Hobbs Rehabilitation. Last year the Sprint distance, this year the Half, along with his Personal Trainer, Tim, they zoomed around the cycle circuit in a PB time and he has his sights firmly set on a Full distance next year!
Laura, a current Hobbs Rehabilitation patient at Liss, comments: “Nearly a year ago, I had an accident and fractured my spine in 3 places. Thankfully my back healed, but I had no feeling in my left foot. When I attended Hobbs Physiotherapy for the first time, I was in a wheelchair and couldn’t walk unaided. Fast forward 10 months, with my incredible physiotherapist Lizzie by my side, I completed the final part of the Superhero Triathlon. I walked 1k with my stick, the other Superhero teammates joined together for the final stretch, and then I surprised all my family and walked the last few metres unaided. Lizzie believed in me when I thought things were impossible and I wouldn’t have walked that last few metres without her. I am so grateful and lucky to have had support from Lizze and Hobbs. The triathlon team were awesome; thank you all. Undoubtedly, it has been one of my life’s hardest and most emotional journeys. But as a team, we did it!”
We are incredibly proud of all our amazing patients who participated, your determination is truly inspiring! A massive shoutout to everyone who participated; your energy and enthusiasm made this event unforgettable.
We can’t wait to do it all over again next year!
