Clinical Education at Southampton Football Club

February 22nd, 2023

Hobbs Rehabilitation visited Southampton Football Club Training Grounds for vestibular rehabilitation training in concussion

Emma Jewer, Concussion Service Lead at Hobbs Rehabilitation, delivered 2 workshops with practical and theory sessions to the medical teams from the youth, adult and women’s teams.

Feedback has been impressive with requests for more practical training on baseline testing and embedding this into their existing rehab and exercise protocols.

We are currently working on further clinical education in response to the demand for specialist services for those with persistent concussion symptoms or balance and vestibular issues across the wider British elite sports sector.

University of the West of England students getting hands-on experience with advanced neurotechnology equipment

60 UWE second-year physio students visited our MiNT headquarters on the first floor of our Intensive Neurotherapy Centre in Bristol for some MiNT (Masterclass in Neurotechnology) education.

The students met with Amy Dennis-Jones, Specialist Neurological Physiotherapist at Hobbs Rehabilitation and Research/Development Physiotherapist for MiNT, to learn how to use their clinical reasoning to embed the use of neurotechnology combined with hands-on therapy with their patients.

The day included case studies of real patients, and the opportunity to set up and try 3 pieces of technology to be used in their case study along with observation of a live clinical environment. They were excited to see some of the world’s leading neurotechnology including gait trainers, robotics and VR devices.

Professor Olivier Rémi-Néris from the Faculty of Medicine, Brest University Hospital Centre, France wrote in his letter of thanks: “I spent two days in Hobbs facilities in Bristol February 2nd 2023 and in Winchester the day after. All the therapists I met had shown a great level of skills in using a number of technical devices and explaining their use in their daily practice. They also showed a great level of attention to my questions and gave appropriate and very relevant answers”

Alison Watt Presents at the "Neurophysotherapy Across the 4-Pillars" Presentation for ACPIN (Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Neurology)

February 15th, 2023

Alison Watt presented “Alternative Physiotherapy Roles” to the ACPIN South Central Hub, where she lifted the lid on how she has forged her career path to take full advantage of her diverse skillset. In an interesting and motivational presentation, she spoke about her responsibilities in her split position at Hobbs Rehabilitation and encouraged others to follow their passions and step into their power and out of their comfort zones.

ACPIN kindly donated the proceeds to Winchester Hospice and recently cared for a much-valued colleague, friend & Wessex ACPIN committee member, Nicky Ellis (Co-Founder and Director at Hobbs Rehabilitation) who sadly passed away recently.
