Last month we had the honour of hosting Pippa Bennet, Chief Medical Officer for the Paralympics, and Sam Cumming, Mental Health Lead for the UK Sports Institute, at Hobbs Rehabilitation South East, home to our Concussion Clinic headquarters. Their visit aligned with June’s recently published concussion guidelines, emphasising the significance of multidisciplinary rehabilitation.
At Hobbs Rehabilitation, we take great pride in being a key provider for the UKSI in delivering multidisciplinary concussion rehab, underscoring the importance of comprehensive care for athletes. Our commitment to excellence extends beyond the Paralympics, as we continue to collaborate closely with a diverse range of elite sports, including GB Cycling, GB Equestrian, GB Hockey, and Para Athletes.
Public awareness surrounding the critical role of active rehabilitation following head injury has been on the rise and as a result the demand for our Concussion Clinic has soared. We are thrilled to announce that we are actively working to meet this demand and plan to expand our services to offer our Concussion Clinic beyond Hobbs Rehabilitation South East and Winchester.
We at Hobbs Rehabilitation have many fruitful working relationships with the charity sector and we are proud of our own efforts to support national and local charitable endeavours, which go back as far as our history; our teams across all of our centres love to bring together the power of individuals to benefit others. We thought our readers might enjoy a quarterly feature highlighting some of our patients’ altruism and the first of these is Ed Jackson, who was a patient at Hobbs Rehabilitation Intensive Neurotherapy Centre in Bristol.
The name “Millimetres 2 Mountains” truly represents the remarkable journey of founder Ed Jackson. It symbolises his incredible transformation from a quadriplegic lying in the ICU after a severe injury to scaling mountains and conquering summits.
Ed’s story highlights the power of perseverance and the human spirit’s ability to overcome immense challenges. A fracture dislocation of C6/7 left him with limited movement in his right arm, but he gradually regained control of his body through hard work and sheer determination. Reaching the summit of Snowdon was a significant milestone for Ed, marking the beginning of his mission to give back and support the causes that helped him and countless others during their most challenging times. As he continued his journey, conquering mountains in different regions like Snowdonia, the Alps, and the Himalayas, he realised that the true essence lay not in the destinations themselves but in the profound connection he formed with nature and the people he encountered along the way.
The foundation’s ethos was rooted in the idea that every millimetre of progress, no matter how small, could eventually lead to reaching great heights – just as Ed had done since his accident. By promoting this philosophy and encouraging others to embrace their own journeys, the M2M foundation hopes to create a ripple effect of positive change in the lives of many.
As part of the Together Outdoors programme by Millimetres 2 Mountains, the charity has teamed up with the YHA Festival of Walking to host a walking weekend in the stunning Brecon Beacons National Park, with an overnight stay fully funded by YHA.

We are proud to introduce our new inpatient facility at the Laverstock Care Centre in Salisbury. The self-contained dedicated rehab unit has ensuite patient rooms, a large gym, access to outside space and a communal dining area.
A 24 hour treatment approach is supported by specialist nursing care and a Rehabilitation Medicine Consultant, meaning that we can accept those who are medically stable but need specialist care such as PEG, or who may need spasticity management or medication reviews.
This service provides individualised therapy programmes and is suitable for people with neurological conditions and those who would respond to intensive specialist rehab.
Hobbs Rehabilitation and our local care providers Caring Homes offer a multidisciplinary service provided by experienced specialists in neurological and intensive rehabilitation. These include experts in the field of physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, rehabilitation medicine, clinical neuropsychology and orthotics to help ensure that every individual can reach their full potential.
A range of neurotechnology is available alongside hands-on therapy for integration of cognition, communication, motor and functional tasks. This intensity of high dosage treatment maximises the opportunity for neuroplasticity and results in better outcomes and reduced long-term care requirements.
Bespoke programmes are designed for each individual with up to four hours of therapy a day. Realistic expectations are clearly defined and agreed with the individual, their family and their carers.
We accept self-referrals and referrals from Consultants, General Practitioners, other Health Care Professionals and Case Managers.
