57 year old lady presenting with left-sided weakness following a ruptured aneurysm causing a right intracranial haemorrhage whilst out jogging with her husband. Previously fit and well, enjoys contemporary, ballet and ballroom dancing.

Main Areas Affected

• Left sided weakness, upper limb more than lower limb
• Left hemianopia and inattention
• Left sensory changes with neuropathic pain
• Reduced safety awareness and impulsivity
• Dysarthria

Functional Ability on Admission

• Unable to walk
• Transferring with Sara Stedy
• Standing with AO1-2

Hobbs Rehabilitation Input

• Intensive rehabilitation package and ongoing outpatient appointments
• Physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy with conventional therapy and neurotechnology
• Upper limb stretching and sensory work
• Lower limb strengthening and gait re-education
• Balance and visual scanning work
• Functional work in the kitchen / bathroom
• Cognitive and visual retraining

Functional Ability on Discharge

Functional ability to date:

• Walking and transferring with quad stick and supervision with carers
• Able to look after affected arm with minimal assistance
• Able to stand for much longer periods of time in order to carry out kitchen and
personal care tasks, as well as gardening
• Returned to seated dance classes
• No longer needing her wheelchair for outdoor activities
• Accessing her husband’s houseboat
