Lokomat®Pro

By Hocoma

Relearning to walk with motivation and sensation
What is the Lokomat®Pro?

Lokomat®Pro is a cutting-edge robotic-assisted therapy that provides effective, intensive gait training through a high number of task-specific repetitions, a key driver of neuroplasticity and improved functional outcomes. Clinically proven to enhance walking abilities and mobility in patients with severe to moderate impairments, the Lokomat allows us to deliver tailored, high-intensity gait training that supports recovery while ensuring therapy remains engaging and enjoyable for patients of all ages.

The LokomatPro can be fitted with standard orthoses for adults or with pediatric orthoses. The paediatric orthosis is designed to accommodate small children by offering a special set of harnesses and cuffs that provide a precise fit for patients with femurs between 21 and 35 cm (8.3 – 13.8 in).

Robot-assisted therapy enables effective and intensive training by providing a high number of task-specific repetitions, which is an essential factor underlying neuroplasticity and improved functional outcomes. Lokomat therapy leads to clinically relevant improvements in the following outcomes in patients with severe to moderate impairments in walking abilities and functional mobility:

  • Walking speed
  • Cardiovascular fitness
  • Functional ambulation
  • Walking endurance
  • Balance
  • Functional mobility

During rehabilitation, it’s important to gradually challenge patients based on their current abilities and push just beyond them. The speed, body weight support, and robotic assistance can be adjusted to match needs and make the therapy more effective. Engaging, game-like virtual reality exercises help keep patients motivated to reach their goals. The level of effort directly influences how the task is performed, including walking patterns and speed. Research also suggests that combining robot-assisted walking training with virtual reality can further improve movement in lower limbs.

Hobbs Rehabilitation is proud to introduce a world-class facility in Dorset offering intensive and advanced rehabilitation for adults and children, including the Lokomat®Pro. The offering includes high-intensity residential programmes where families/carers can stay together.
