Get Moving with Hobbs Rehabilitation: February’s Get Active Month is Back!

February 5, 2025

Get Active is back, and better than ever! The Three Peaks begins this February at Hobbs Rehabilitation South East, Winchester, and Laverstock!

This February, we’re inviting everyone at Hobbs Rehabilitation to come together for a fun and inspiring challenge as part of our Get Active Month. Our goal? To travel the over 1,000km distance, in steps, from here to the iconic Three Peaks: Snowdon, Scafell Pike, and Ben Nevis. Whether you push, walk, run, cycle, or swim, every active moment helps us reach our target of over a million steps. It’s a chance to get moving, set personal goals, and work as a team to add all our steps together to accomplish something amazing.

Tracking Our Steps to the Three Peaks

Last year, everyone at Hobbs Rehabilitation South East beat the step goal from Lands End to John O’Groats, so this year we are choosing to go from our individual centres all the way through the Three Peaks, ending at Ben Nevis.

Every step counts towards our +1000km goal – whether it is a quick trip, a longer journey, or even just moving to the kitchen to make a cup of tea every day! At Hobbs Rehabilitation, we are encouraging everyone to track their step count and add them onto our activity board in our centre.

Lizzie Mills, Specialist Neurological Physiotherapist, comments “Get Active Month at Hobbs Rehabilitation is one of the many events that we hold throughout the year and is part of what brings us together as a community. Our aim is to educate, inspire and motivate all of our staff and patients to be more physically active this month and create lifelong habits to help us live well for longer.”

The Benefits of Joining Our Get Active Month

Physical activity is a vital part of the rehabilitation process, helping to rebuild both the body and mind. Regular exercise improves strength, flexibility, and mobility, allowing individuals to regain independence and perform daily tasks with ease. It also boosts circulation, supports heart health, and enhances joint function, key elements in recovery. Beyond the physical, staying active has powerful mental benefits, reducing stress, anxiety, and depression while boosting confidence and mood.

Joining our Get Active challenge during February is the perfect opportunity to promote your physical health, enhance your rehabilitation journey, and ultimately feel much better.

Hobbs Rehabilitation offers a variety of engaging and dynamic exercise classes that will count towards your step goals.

Hobbs Rehabilitation South East Moving On Up: Designed for those facing balance and mobility challenges due to Parkinson’s, Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, or other neurological conditions. This standing-based strength and balance class is both fun and effective, helping to improve fitness and stability.

“Cycling at this exercise class, and at home, motivates me to get out and be active. Participating in the Get Active month last year was so much fun, working together with everyone as a group to achieve the steps. I will definitely be joining this year as I am looking forward to my daughter’s wedding which will be outside, so this will really help.” – Lucy, a patient at Hobbs Rehabilitation South East

Hobbs Rehabilitation Winchester NeuroActive: Combines dancing/Zumba, bands and ball exercises, stretches, and tai-chi/yoga to help improve strength, coordination, aerobic fitness, and flexibility. It’s an engaging way to enhance overall wellness in a supportive environment.

Hobbs Rehabilitation Challenge PD: An intensive and rewarding program ideal for those recently diagnosed or in the early to mid-stages of Parkinson’s. The circuit-based exercise stations are thoughtfully designed to target common Parkinson’s symptoms such as freezing, stiffness, and slowness of movement. encouraging continuous physical activity.

Goal Setting:

Specific step counts for people with limited mobility is not well researched, but we’ve found that a comfortable starting goal can range from 2,000 to 6,000 daily steps, depending on the individual.

Having a goal in mind helps keep you motivated – write them down and put them up where you can see them every day. It is really important to set yourself up for success by making them realistic.

Starting off slow, and then easing yourself into increasing the activity, might be what works with your body best. Setting yourself an achievable goal will keep you motivated, and can encourage you to try exciting new physical activities. Why not get your family and friends on board, do something together and support each other?

It is also really important to remember that we can all have bad days, don’t let a small setback stop you from keeping on going, it’s okay to miss a day or two.

“Get Active was good fun when we last did it as I am an extremely competitive person, so tracking my walking was an exciting challenge. I made myself walk to the furthest toilet in my house to get the steps in. Get Active made me feel so much better afterwards, and benefited not only myself, but the people around me too.” – A patient at Hobbs Rehabilitation

Get Involved, Get Active!

Hobbs Rehabilitation is thrilled to kick off Get Active Month this February! This is a fantastic opportunity for everyone – staff, therapists, and patients alike – to get moving, count steps, and embrace a healthier lifestyle while supporting rehabilitation recovery. We invite everyone to take part and make a positive impact on their well-being.

If you’re excited to get involved at our centres, simply speak to your therapist, and your name will be added to the board! Let’s continue to support each other, stay motivated, and make this month a celebration of movement, progress, and community.

We can’t wait to see all the steps you’ll take!
