Tactus Therapy

Digital tools to support speech, language, communication and cognitive rehabilitation.

What is it?

Tactus Therapy is a suite of clinician-designed apps that support speech and language therapy through interactive, structured exercises. The apps target spoken and written language, speech production, cognitive-communication skills and swallowing-related therapy. Activities can be adapted to an individual’s abilities, with opportunities for repeated practice during clinician-led sessions and independently at home.
How can repetition support speech and language rehabilitation?
Repeated, purposeful practice helps people work on communication skills and reinforce learning over time. Following a neurological injury or the onset of a neurological condition, skills such as understanding language, finding words or expressing thoughts may be affected. Regular practice, supported by feedback and guidance from a speech and language therapist, can help people develop strategies and work towards their individual communication goals.

Speech and Language Rehabilitation for Neurological Conditions

Tactus Therapy apps may support people experiencing communication or cognitive difficulties following a stroke, acquired brain injury or traumatic brain injury, or as a result of conditions such as Parkinson’s disease or multiple sclerosis. Depending on the app and individual needs, activities may target aphasia, apraxia of speech, dysarthria and cognitive-communication difficulties. Therapy goals may include improving word-finding, understanding spoken language, expressing thoughts, reading, writing and participating more confidently in everyday conversations. The appropriate activities will depend on each person’s assessment and rehabilitation goals.

Conditions That May Benefit

Tactus Therapy uses digital apps to deliver interactive exercises for speech, language and cognitive skills. Activities are designed around specific therapy approaches and can provide structured opportunities to practise individual skills, with the level of difficulty varying by app and exercise. The apps are available on compatible Apple and Android devices. Some can be used offline once downloaded, making practice possible outside scheduled therapy sessions. App features vary, so the available exercises, feedback and progress-sharing options depend on the specific app.
At Hobbs Rehabilitation, Tactus Therapy apps can be incorporated into personalised speech and language therapy as part of an individual’s wider rehabilitation programme. A speech and language therapist can select appropriate activities to complement face-to-face sessions and support practice between appointments. The choice of app and exercises will depend on the person’s communication needs, abilities and goals. Where appropriate, activities may support progress towards practical outcomes such as communicating with family, expressing needs, following conversations and increasing independence in everyday life.
