March 5, 2025

At Hobbs Rehabilitation, we are dedicated to helping individuals regain their independence and improve their quality of life following neurological injury or illness. Our Occupational Therapy (OT) service in Winchester provides specialist assessment and rehabilitation, helping people overcome daily challenges and reach their full potential.

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapy focuses on enabling people to engage in meaningful activities that are essential to their everyday lives. Whether it’s dressing, cooking, working, or enjoying hobbies, our experienced occupational therapists work closely with individuals to develop tailored strategies that enhance function and independence.

We feel our approach to OT input is very holistic and patient centred. Occupational therapy is delivered with compassion, positivity and engagement in the individual’s personal day to day routine. By working with patients in our clinic in Winchester, their own homes and local community we can carry treatment that fits into their normal routine and enables them to feel supported and confident.” – Rose, Occupational Therapist at Hobbs Rehabilitation Winchester

Our Approach at Winchester

Our Winchester-based OT service provides expert assessment and intervention for individuals with a range of neurological conditions, including stroke, brain injury, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson’s.

We take a patient-centred approach, ensuring that rehabilitation goals align with each individual’s lifestyle, aspirations, and specific challenges. Therapy sessions may include:

  • Functional Rehabilitation: Developing practical strategies to improve movement, coordination, and independence in daily tasks
  • Cognitive and Perceptual Therapy: Supporting individuals with memory, attention, and problem-solving difficulties
  • Upper Limb Therapy: Helping individuals regain strength, coordination, and dexterity in their hands and arms
  • Assistive Technology and Adaptations: Recommending equipment and neurotechnology or environmental modifications to support independence at home and work
  • Fatigue Management and Lifestyle Adaptation: Providing guidance on balancing activity and rest to enhance energy levels and well-being

Alongside our Occupational Therapy sessions, our centre in Winchester also has a wide range of exercise classes that fit perfectly with our patient’s OT rehabilitation journey.

  1. Neurotech Therapy Group: A group  hands-on with our neurotechnology, functional task practice, sensory work and fine motor dexterity tasks for the upper limb.
  2. Movement and Mobility: A seated and standing balance class with a mixture of cardiovascular work and strengthening.
  3. NeuroActive: A dancing/Zumba based class with bands and balls, stretches and tai-chi/yoga to improve strength, coordination, aerobic fitness and flexibility
  4. PD Challenge: An exercise based philosophy for those in the early to mid stages of idiopathic Parkinson’s disease. It aims to target some of the main symptoms in order to help you to live well with Parkinson’s disease.

“We use different and varying treatment methods, including neurotechnology, with hands-on guidance and facilitation. Working with external companies, local charities, and friends and families of the individual helps to provide the most holistic approach to their goal setting and overall rehab programme.– Rose, Occupational Therapist at Hobbs Rehabilitation Winchester
