The month began with one of Hobbs Rehabilitation’s patients, Rhys, making excellent progress during hydrotherapy sessions at Oaksey House. Working alongside Caroline Hardman, Specialist Amputee and Neurological Physiotherapist, he has been building strength and confidence in the pool, supported by his Ottobock Genium X4 above-knee prosthesis, which is fully waterproof and ideally suited to hydrotherapy.
His prosthesis was then put to the test during an ambitious challenge. Rhys and Caroline, joined by Hobbs Rehabilitation’s Amputee & Trauma Lead, Mark McIntosh, spinal cord injury patient Iwan, and others, completed a hike up Snowdon using ExoQuads – adaptive bikes developed by Exotech. The group enjoyed an unforgettable experience, and everyone was delighted by what they achieved together. Those interested in learning more about the challenge can watch our video documenting their journey on YouTube.
Another inspiring success story came from Oaksey House, where Gemma completed an intensive rehabilitation week combining Physiotherapy, Psychology and Occupational Therapy. During her stay, she also participated in hydrotherapy sessions with Rehab Assistant & Fitness Instructor Louise Lewis, demonstrating impressive progress in the pool, including a dance routine they created together. Gemma spoke about being amazed by the difference she experienced between the start and end of the week, highlighting the impact of intensive, multidisciplinary rehabilitation. Congratulations to Gemma on her fantastic achievements.
Advancing Rehabilitation Through Technology
Innovation continued to play a central role throughout May. The Winchester team took part in dedicated training on the Strolll 2.0 system, exploring its range of programmes and interactive exercises while learning how to integrate the technology effectively into patient sessions.
The use of augmented reality in rehabilitation is an exciting development, offering new ways to support gait training, improve balance, and reduce the risk of falls for people living with Parkinson’s and other neurological conditions. Alongside its clinical benefits, the technology also brings an engaging and enjoyable element to therapy sessions.
Professional Development and Knowledge Sharing
May also provided several opportunities for learning and professional development across the Hobbs team.
A series of in-service training sessions enabled colleagues to share specialist knowledge and expertise. In Bristol, Neuropsychologist Becca Andrews delivered a session on Clinical Formulation within multidisciplinary teams, exploring how collaborative approaches can enhance patient care. Meanwhile, Warren from Pressure Care Management provided valuable insights into postural support solutions and their role in rehabilitation.
Education and professional development continue to be central to the ethos of Hobbs Rehabilitation, with a strong focus on supporting both internal and external clinicians through high-quality, clinically relevant training opportunities. Alongside ongoing CPD programmes and university teaching, Hobbs Rehabilitation is pleased to be hosting several upcoming courses, including the Introductory Bobath Module: Postural Control and the Recovery of Locomotion, delivered in collaboration with The Bobath Centre and the BBTA. We will also be running our next Senior Training Course on Monday 29th June 2026 in Bristol, featuring Topic 1: Global Postural Control, exploring whole-body alignment, stability and movement coordination to support postural control. A separate session, Topic 2: Head, Neck & Trunk and Ribcage for Function, will be delivered independently. These courses sit alongside a series of practical training days led by Helen Lindfield and are designed to support Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists working across a range of rehabilitation settings.
These initiatives reflect Hobbs Rehabilitation’s ongoing commitment to continuous learning and ensuring patients benefit from the latest evidence-based approaches and best practices.

Strengthening Partnerships at Oaksey House
The month concluded with further visits to Oaksey House, providing an opportunity to spend time with the multidisciplinary team and learn more about the collaborative approach used within the inpatient environment.
Seeing how different disciplines work together to deliver highly specialised, patient-centred rehabilitation continues to highlight the importance of teamwork in achieving positive outcomes for patients and their families.
As another busy and rewarding month comes to a close, everyone at Hobbs Rehabilitation looks forward to sharing more patient successes, innovations and developments in the months ahead.
