The MiNT Academy and MotusAcademy Sign MoU

August 10, 2022

The MiNT Academy and MotusAcademy sign MoU to strengthen global exchange on neurotechnology clinical education with academics and industry. The bilateral agreement was established to mutually promote and support global clinical education and application of neurotechnology by bridging the gap between clinicians, researchers, product developers and patients.

The MiNT Academy, recently founded by Hobbs Rehabilitation UK, provides an innovative educational platform to encourage interdisciplinary clinicians to embed neurotechnology into their clinical practice and enable product developers to collaborate at the design stage to produce clinically relevant products.

Membership with MiNT includes physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech & language therapists, academics, researchers, engineers, neurotechnology developers as well as established technology companies from all over the world.

RehabWeek, Rotterdam, 27th July 2022 – The MiNT Academy formalised the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with non-profit association MotusAcademy, a platform dedicated to promoting continuing development and education in rehabilitation robotics. MotusAcademy, led by Professor Robert Riener in Zurich, Switzerland, aims to bring together leaders in their field internationally for the advancement of the sector.

“We are very proud to be joining the forces of MiNT and MotusAcademy to allow the future development of clinical education,” said Helen Hobbs, Director and Founder of Hobbs Rehabilitation, the largest independent provider of neurological rehab in the UK.

“It is the clinical expertise of the Hobbs’ interdisciplinary team that has driven forward the development of the MiNT Academy. Their vision, combined with that of the team of experts behind the MotusAcademy, will elevate the platform of education and research. This will empower clinicians to engage with the use of technology within their clinical practice to improve patient outcomes across the globe.  We are excited to build upon our future relationship and encourage other clinicians who are yet to join the network to do so.

Alison Watt, MiNT Academy Lead adds “I am incredibly excited by this collaboration – through it, we will connect our educational platforms and share resources, ideas and innovation to further neurotechnology and rehabilitation knowledge. Only through partnerships such as this will the global network of clinicians and industry be able to learn together, developing the skills and knowledge essential to improve patient care. We look forward to working with each other on our combined strategy and delivering joint educational offerings soon.”

Zen Koh, MotusAcademy Co-Founder and Executive Director said, “We are very excited about this partnership with Helen’s team. Working together as a team, we will fully unlock the potential of clinical education and empowerment for the users and patients of advanced rehabilitation technology.”

This partnership has been brewing with smaller projects since the start of 2022 when one of MiNT’s Specialist NeuroPhysiotherapist, Amy Dennis-Jones, shared her perspectives on upper limb robotics in MotusAcademy’s Spring Webinar Series. The two academies will continue sharing resources and ideas across both networks to ensure the adoption of advanced technology ensures a pathway to the best clinical recovery for patients.
