Neurological Rehabilitation - Physiotherapy

Neurological physiotherapy helps to restore movement and function when someone is affected by injury, illness or disability. It can also help to reduce your risk of injury or illness in the future. To help identify your specific individual needs, our neurological physiotherapists will assess movement, coordination, sensation, balance and posture to formulate bespoke treatment plans, and set individual therapy goals.

Combining hands-on therapy with Neurotechnology

Hobbs Rehabilitation combines the application of specialist hands-on techniques with the latest in neurotechnology. Neurotechnology can be a very useful adjunct to your neurorehabilitation programme and can significantly enhance the results you achieve by creating neuroplastic changes through high levels of repetition. Our therapists formulate and implement individual treatment programmes based on your individual needs and goals and their comprehensive knowledge of evidence-based practice.

Neurological physiotherapy assessments can be completed in one of our clinics or in your own home. The assessment will include your neurological physiotherapist talking with you about your condition, how it affects you and what you aim to achieve through neurological physiotherapy input. Your neurophysiotherapist will assess your range of movement, function, movement patterns, strength, muscle tone and sensation; the assessment will also involve completing some baseline outcome measures and considering your suitability to use neurotechnology. Following the assessment your neurological physiotherapist will be able to recommend the most suitable course of treatment for you based on your goals and the assessment findings.

Working from the outcome of your assessment, neurological physiotherapy treatment sessions can be delivered in one of our clinics, your own home or a community-based setting. The frequency and duration of the treatment sessions will be agreed with you from the outcome of the assessment: some people may benefit from having their neurorehabilitation delivered daily (intensive rehabilitation), this will also be discussed during your assessment.

Treatment for neurological physiotherapy sessions may include:
  • Strengthening exercises
  • Stretching and mobilisation
  • Home exercise programmes
  • Balance training
  • Postural re-education
  • Functional task practice
  • Gait re-education
  • Trial of different walking/mobility aids
  • Application of hands-on specialist techniques
  • Education on condition and/or symptom management
  • Application and use of neurotechnology
