Adaptive Sport & Activities

Incorporating Sport & Outdoor Activities into Hands-on Therapy

At Hobbs Rehabilitation, we believe rehabilitation should extend beyond the clinic environment. Our therapists work with adults and children to adapt sports, hobbies, and outdoor activities around new injuries, neurological conditions, or physical challenges, helping them continue doing the things they enjoy while working towards meaningful rehabilitation goals. By incorporating adaptive sport and activity into therapy, we create opportunities for progress that feel engaging, motivating, and relevant to everyday life.

Bringing Rehabilitation into Real-world Experiences

Across all Hobbs Rehabilitation services, our team can use sport and activity-based rehabilitation to develop strength, mobility, confidence, independence, and transferable functional skills. At Chedington, these opportunities are expanded further through access to specialist adaptive equipment, including adaptive cycling and paddleboarding, alongside a wider range of outdoor and adventure-based activities. This unique environment allows individuals to challenge themselves in new ways, break down barriers to participation, and discover what is possible beyond rehabilitation.

Value-Based Rehabilitation Using Activities & Sports

Our clinicians use a wide range of activities and sports in therapeutic ways to support patient goals, for both adults and children, adapting familiar sports or introducing new activities for amputees and people with neurological conditions.

At Hobbs Rehabilitation at Chedington, rehabilitation extends far beyond traditional therapy. Adaptive sports and outdoor activities are integrated alongside hands-on therapy and neurotechnology to create engaging, goal-focused rehabilitation programmes for both adults and children.

Individuals can access a wide range of activities, including cycling, paddleboarding, archery, air rifle shooting, fishing, trail walking, surfing, rock climbing and equine therapy. Creative and practical activities such as arts and crafts, gardening, bushcraft and woodwork also provide valuable opportunities to develop physical, cognitive and functional skills. Every activity is adapted to the individual, ensuring rehabilitation remains meaningful, challenging and enjoyable.

Adaptive sport and activity can be incorporated into rehabilitation programmes across Hobbs Rehabilitation. Our therapists work creatively to adapt activities around an individual’s goals, interests and abilities, helping them return to meaningful participation following injury or illness. Depending on the location and available facilities, this may include adapted golf sessions, climbing activities, wheelchair skills training, community access work and sport-specific rehabilitation designed to support confidence, independence and recovery.

For those looking for a more immersive rehabilitation experience, Hobbs Rehabilitation at Chedington offers a range of dedicated retreats and experience weeks throughout the year. From adaptive sports and intensive children’s therapy programmes to Parkinson’s therapy retreats, each combines expert rehabilitation, meaningful activities and access to specialist facilities within our 500-acre countryside setting.
